Bio

I graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 2005 and began my career as a surgical float nurse at Vancouver General Hospital.  During this time, I quickly discovered my love of emergency nursing, completed the Emergency Nursing program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology and started working as an ER nurse at Vancouver General Hospital.

I truly loved the fast-paced, challenging, and team environment of working in a busy, level 1 trauma center. However, in 2014, after many years of working as an ER nurse and an unfortunate ankle fracture, I was provided with several opportunities to work in leadership roles.  Some of my leadership roles have included: working with a team to develop the Ebola policy and provide frontline education, assist in the operational setup of the mobile medical unit in Vancouver’s downtown eastside at the start of the opioid crisis, project manager for Vancouver Acute, and the nurse clinician for Trauma Services.

Two years ago, I moved to Nova Scotia to be closer to family.  I returned to my roots as an ER nurse and have recently transitioned to working as a Patient Flow Operations Leader.  In the past few months, I have been assisting in the setup and operationalizing some of  Nova Scotia Health Authority’s COVID response programs.

While I am still trying to figure out exactly what I want to do when I grow up, I know that I have a passion for nursing and leadership. Having started my Masters in Health Studies at Athabasca University, I hope that through this program, I will gain the knowledge and tools required to be an effective leader in the ever-changing and complex world of health care.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family, travel, hanging out with my dog and reading.
